Mark 7:20-23...From Your Heart...

“What comes out of a person is what defiles them. For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and defile a person.”

Jesus was teaching His disciples about matters of the heart over those of tradition and custom. During this time, and even today, many concentrate too much on what to do, what to eat, what to drink and how to organize or celebrate seasons. While there is merit in those things we do Jesus was teaching that everything emanates from within our heart. What we say, what we do and how we treat others comes from our heart and our desire to be more like Christ. He was teaching that knowledge of these things was not enough but sincere, heartfelt commitment in our relationship to Jesus is most important. Let Jesus rule your heart and from there your mind and body will follow accordingly.
