Mark 4:35-40...Faith In God...

That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.”  Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him.  A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!”Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

The story itself is fascinating. Even though the disciples were following Jesus and His ministry they were still learning about who Jesus was and the power that was within Him. They had not yet fully understood that Jesus was God’s son, part of the Trinity and the creator of all. His power over nature confused them even more until they eventually realized Jesus was Christ. There is a moment in each of our lives that we realize the need and longing for salvation of Christ. Embedding in each of us is a longing for this relationship yet the deceptions of satan and the forces of evil distract us, trying to keep us occupied and separated from the love of God. Like His disciples we find ourselves lacking in faith even though we know that faith in Jesus is the foundation of our salvation. Recognizing that God has created everything and that He remains in control of everything gives us hope and courage to profess His forgiveness of sins and to share His love.
